(( TXT Starting Problems
Hi. New to the forum here. I have a 99 TXT that is having starting issues.
The engine cranks fine but will not start for a quite a long time. There is a lot of gas spitting out of the carb. After a while it will fire up and run in neutral. When I put the air box and air filter back on it will not start again. The compression is around 140. I installed a new carb, plugs, fuel pump and coil and fuel filter. There is spark and it cranks well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike |

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
If gas is spitting out the air filter end of the carb, it sounds like the carb bowl is getting too full of fuel. I would guess that it sputters and you see black smoke when it does finally start?
Removing the carb and cleaning the float valve should help the flooding issue. |

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
Turn it over for a few seconds then disconnect the pulse hose from the fuel pump. Then try again, if it starts and runs you have a float issue.

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
I'm new to carts, but it spit gas with the old carb and the new carb. I also removed the fuel line, and it still did it.
The local "cart expert" at our campground is as perplexed as me. It seems that the engine is starving for air. When it does start it runs until I put the air box and filter back on. Does anyone know of any repair shops in the Bass Lake, Knox In. area? Thanks again. Mike |

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
If it is spitting out gas with the fuel line disconnected it sounds like the intake valve may not be closed completely at the top of the compression stroke. I would check you valve clearances and if they are ok, your timing belt may have slipped..

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
Loosen up the muffler bolts, pry the muffler away from the engine, 1/4 inch is plenty, see if it runs then, plugged muffler will do what your saying

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
also remove tappet cove and adjust the valves, if the valves are too tight that also causes your problem

Re: (( TXT Starting Problems
Thanks. I will give that a try. What clearance should I have for the valves?
