I use this little voltage regulator I got off ebay and a laptop power supply i got at the thrift shop. supplies up to 5 amps with voltage regulation (my laptop ps only does about 3.5amp), you set the voltage you want, it takes care of the rest. Works up to 30 volts input, but if your input supply voltage is closer to your desired output voltage you get much tighter control (knob is pretty sensitive with 30v input). I use it for all kinds of electrical projects, Its currently set for homebrew nickel plating.

It worked last winter and I am confident that they we be ready to go in spring 2014.
The only point I would make is that these are not chargers as such so I use a car charger on each battery first to ensure that they are at 100% at the start.

. . correct . . they will "maintain" a charge, not provide one . . . I think they are rated at about 1/2 amp @ 12-14v . . .
