Default Oil suggestions

2001 CC DS FE290 stock engine.

Just got it a couple of weeks ago and want to change oil.

Got any recommendations for oil? Synthetic or not? Brand?

Thanks...

Change the oil. There is a plug on the front, bottom of the FE290 and FE350 engine blocks, use a 14mm ratchet and socket to remove this. BUT, before you do that, run the cart up to running temperature, this will allow all of the oil to run out quickly. Be sure to put a drain pan under the drain hole!!! Remove the dipstick out to allow for vacuum for quick drainage. Take off the oil filter (you may need an oil filter wrench to remove it) and replace with a Napa 4639, Super Tech 4967, or STP 4967 filter. Don't use Fram filters! Before you put the filter back, fill it half way with oil. Put the filter back on. Replace the 14mm drain plug and fill up with 1.6 quarts of SAE30 synthetic or conventional oil. 10W-30 synthetic or conventional is ok too.

But my question wasn't about what to do. I know how to change oil. It's about what oil to use.

These are small high rpm aircooled engines. Certainly some of the more experienced mechanics in here have preferences on synthetic vs regular and brand.

Back in my motocross days we used a brand called "redline". I used amsoil full synthetic in by street bike.

I tried the search box and typed in "oil" and didn't get one result.

I'm asking for a little wisdom on whats been learned with these engines.

I've had an electric cart for years, but this is my first experience with these FE290's.

Any recommendation are much appreciated.

It's really a matter of opinion when dealing with oil types and brands, you'll likely get several answers about what is "best" to use, all of them perfectly viable choices. I myself use 10W-30 Pennzoil in my Grandpa's DS because I always have several quarts of it on hand for some of the other equipment and such here at the house.

Opinions and several answers are exactly what I'm looking for.

Thank you for yours. Do you use the detergent or non-detergent oil?

With all the engine upgrades and great ingenuity and performance mods I read in here from all the members on this site , I guess I thought I would get more of a response on preferred oil.

I ended up googling and found some answers outside this forum. There seems to be some consensus on the one I chose.
