Default 99 ds gas grinding in the rear end

I noticed the noise when bought the cart but I did not know if it was normal or not. it sounds like a metal on metal sound and I cant tell if its coming from the upper or lower gear box or drive clutch all so it doesn't seem to effect the operations of the cart . any help on how to repair or diagnose will be greatly appreciated

Put the cart in maintenance mode and get it running. That should help you determine if it is in the clutches or in the rear end.

I did that and you cant hear it unless its engaging the rear clutch assembly

Had the same noise on my 2001 DS from the day I bought it a couple years ago. Finally just got around to fixing it this last week. It's more than likely the back bearing on the input shaft of the trans-axle assembly. Not to hard to fix. Before you dive in make sure this is it by removing your drive belt, put the cart in maintenance mode, block the wheels and operate the gas. Now your driven clutch will not engage and the noise should be gone. If this is the case here is a link to a blog that will assist you in repair.

I ended up pulling the whole motor/trans out as one assembly then separating trans, removed right axle and tipped the trans up on the left axle with the left wheel on. This made it alot easier to ensure all gears went back in properly.

Good luck with your repair.
