So as is, as soon as I hook up positive battery cable starter generator starts running. Should I test it with it running like that???

No. Remove the negative cable from the battery to be safe.
Next, remove all connections to the 4 large lugs on the solenoid, including the straps. Check the two lugs on one end for continuity, then check the two on the other end. One set should be open, the other closed. You need to find out which set is which. Is the motor running in reverse when you hook up the battery? |

Checked continuity on new solenoid. Had to flip solenoid 180deg. So that NO sides were lined up. Appears to be working properly now. Thanks for all the help..
