Default '96 Club Car 48v stalls when accelerator is depressed to the floor

I just purchased a 1996 club car, lifted, with newer Trojan T-875 batteries. It has a GE high speed motor and ran like a champ for about a week. Then today, it started stalling or jerking at certain throttle positions. For example, when the throttle is completely depressed, it accelerates very sluggishly, and if I'm already going, it actually slows down. This is my first cart, so while I'm mechanically savy, my knowledge of carts is limited to the golf course. Thanks in advance.

First thing is make sure you have a fully charged battery pack. It can take up to 16 hours to charge fully. Keep charger hooked to cart anytime you are not driving it whenever possible.

Batteries are fully charged and read 51.2v when I test with my meter. Checked each cell with my hydrometer and all are good. I'm thinking its maybe a connection, but I don't know which ones to check. The only other thing I can think of (and I'm hoping it's not) is the component that controls the voltage to the motor.

Thanks again.

Does it have a switch or lever to change forward to reverse?

Also, there seems to be "dead spots" in the pedal travel. That makes me think its the controller. Hopefully I'm wrong and it's a quick fix.
Thanks again.

Do you have the pie shaped box on the driver side frame between the batteries. This would be called a V glide throttle control. These can burn and melt inside. That sounds like what you have.

I don't see anything that looks like that. The only thing on the driver side is the charger portal/unit and the directional lever control.

I bet he has one of the early "under the floor potentiometers". I didn't think they were in carts as early as '96 though

Unless maybe it has an MCOR conversion

Another thing to consider is that the motor is a GE. It has 4hp vs the ~3 hp of the stock one. Is the pot connected to the forward/reverse controller?
