Whit, when I try to measure using your instructions, this is what I get (photo)

What am I doing wrong? Each battery individually checks out at about 12.62 volts.

Change your meter to the 200v scale, that display reading means overflow/over-range.

Ok then plug it back in and let it charge undisturbed for least 16 hours... During the charging cycle your 48 volt cart may register voltage as high as 65 volts, once the charger shuts off the cart then needs to rest for up to 12 hours again undisturbed to which you can then take another set of battery readings. Keep in mind that a 48 volt pack in tip top shape will read nearly 51 volts as a unit or 12.73 per battery; anything less than this helps us determine how good or bad your batteries are

Thank you. I will report back with the results. I appreciate your assistance. Happy Thanksgiving.

I let the cart charge for 16 hours. I believe the reading after the charge was about 55 volts. I let it sit for 24 hours and then took a reading 50.5 volts. It sat outside in temperatures overnight that were about 40 degrees.

That's about 90 % state of charge so overall not to bad for unknown and cold batteries...

sqzdog...#3 problem.
Mine was doing that this season before last and I charged one by one as well and then let them rest and I checked them one by one "not hooked together" and I had one that read quit a bit lower than the rest. So I got bought a used one while on camping trip at beach to get by. My batteries are 4.5 y/o so about time to replace. But if your checking battery pack together then it's only going to be as good as your worst battery. One bad battery can cause a pack to drop like a slow air leak in a tire. I guessing the battery light is coming on telling you hey you got a leak. lol Good Luck and please keep us posted. Thats how we learn from each other.

Good advice. I'll check them out and see what they look like. How long did you let them sit after charging before you noticed the difference? Thank you!

I would check individual voltage right after a charge write it down, go for a ride and check again, write it down, and compare notes.

Just to clarify the battery light coming on at random times was happening before you removed batteries to charge individually or only started after?
