Default 36v ez go 2003 started smoking

I am new to the forum and could use some help. I have a 36v ez go, in the past few months i started smelling smoke once in a while when i was driving it. not alot, just a faint smell. thought maybe it was just dust burning off. yesterday, i was driving and i could smell smoke and see it. i opened up the seat and smoke was coming out of the box where the shift lever goes into. the battieries went from being fully charged down to half charged within minutes. i started to go back home, it was going fine, i stopped and now it is dead. i push the accelerator, i hear the click of something like its trying to go(selonoid?) however it does not move at all, not an inch.

any help would be appreciated. the batteries are newer and all the battery connections are tight.

thanks again

you have a bad f-n-r switch. remove that cover and you will see burnt wires and terminals. Now is a good time to upgrade to 4ga wires completely.

No, it is real easy just remember the wiring as you take it off. Take a picture before so you have an idea where they go.

How long have you had the gears with the big tires? Do you have any other upgrades? If not that is alot of strain to put on the f and r switch and motor.
