What club car to start with for hunting buggy project?
I am going to build a hunting buggy over the winter and I want to make sure I buy a good cart to start with. I know I want 48 volt electric. I spoke with a salesman at D&D motors because I eventually want to upgrade the motor and controller, he said to get a '98 or newer regen cart. What do you folks say? A local dealer has 2006 DS IQ carts with 2008 batteries (4 12 volt though) for $1500. Will these work? I want to keep the original cart price low so I can put more money into the upgrades. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I would go with a 48v series cart with the 6X8v batteries! The series is a much more simple system. Also, there is a reason why you will find the 4X12v systems $500-$600 cheaper. They don't make it anymore for a reason.

Re: What club car to start with for hunting buggy project?
I second what Colby said. I have a 97 model series cart. 48 volt. I replaced the motor with a 36 volt wound unit from Plum Quick. Added 4 guage wires and and a 400 amp controller and it came alive! I also run an Allsports Super Sport lift kit and 22" tall tires. I used to use an atv to go hunting, put out corn, trail ride, etc. Now all I use is the cart. Can't beat it! So nice to silently slip down the hunt club roads while getting to the stand.

Re: What club car to start with for hunting buggy project?
Well it took me awhile but I purchased a 2002 Club Car 48 volt series cart. The cart was already lifted, has 22" tires and HD rear leaf springs. Now I just want to add a rear seat and upgrade the carts hill climbing ability. Anyone having any thoughts on a rear seat/cargo bed combo (what brand?) and what do you think about adding the plum quick Bandit motor?

I agree with everything these guys say. IQ for efficiency, Series for raw power and simplicity, but why on earth anyone would recommend a Regen car is beyond me. If the Precedent is what you like, but you'd rather have a series setup talk to me. I can point you in the right direction for an IQ to series conversion.

Trademark Carts, a site sponsor, has a nice rear seat/cargo deck combo for about $330, shipped. Several people, including myself, have purchased this one.

I spoke with D&D and Plum Quick and decided to go with the PQ Bandit. I should get it next week. I figure I will add a controller, wires, soleniod and F/R switch as I go, rather than dropping a bunch of dough right now. I am not sure what my current motor would be worth, but I would be happy to sell it to you.
