Default Frame swap possible?

I am afraid of the rust on my 1998 txt. I have found a good deal on a frame from a 2003, but Ezgo says that in 2001 they changed frames. Would parts from a 1998 bolt up to a 2003 frame? If not directly, what would need to change?

Is the 2003 just a frame, or does it have other parts on it?

No it will not, at least not the steering. Your 1998 has the steering box mounted to the frame and a 3 bolt steering column. Mid year 2001 ezgo deleted the steering box from the frame and installed a rack & pinion steering to the front axle, they changed the steering column to a 4 bolt unit also.

It is just a frame.

SC; would I need just a newer model steering system? Rack & pinon, steering column, etc.? Would the same lift work? I am wondering if it might still be worth it or do I look for an earlier frame (or just fix weak spots on old one).

It's certainly a LOT easier to fix the existing frame, depending on how bad it is. The battery tray can be replaced. I knew about the steering, but I don't know if anything else changed, which is why I asked if it was just a bare frame or more.

Comparing these two frame pics one can see there are other subtle differences beyond the steering. Curiously, the battery rack fits all TXT's

I don't know where you're located, but you might call a few buggy shops and see if any of them have a used frame in their boneyard. If they are a shop that doesn't have a boneyard, ask if they know if any shops in your area do.

Also might want to post in the For Sale/Wanted section here.

You would need the steering column from the 2003 frame also in addition to a new front end (lift, front axle and rack & pinion). They are very different. I'd bet it would be easier to weld your rusted frame. You could strip it down and have it sand blasted. Do the repairs needed then paint her up and reassemble.
