@JohnnieB so the Marathon is wired differently than any schematic here, and it doesn't matter how the motor is wired? This doesn't make sense to me. Im sure there is a right and wrong way.

I didn't say it didn't matter how the motor was wired and I was talking about the wiring of series drive systems rather than just the motor.

The same F/R switch has been used in Marathons, Medalist and TXT body style golf carts as well as people or cargo haulers with series drives and the series wound motors used have the same connections for the armature windings and stator/field windings.

Limiting to just golf carts:

Attachment-1 is a Marathon with a resistor type series drive. The direction of amp flow through the armature is changed to get reverse.

Attachment-2 is a Marathon with a controller type series drive. The direction of amp flow through the stator is changed to get reverse. Future series drive designs also changed the direction the amps flowing through the stator to get reverse.

Attachment-3 is a Medalist series drive with a 1204 controller.

Attachment-4 is a Medalist series drive with a 1206 controller.

Attachment-5 is a Medalist series drive with a 1206 controller.

If you trace the wiring, you will find they are wired differently, but all are wired "right" since they all work.

FWIW: Attached is a series drive circuit reduced to its simplest form.

It is simply a single piece of wire with lumps in it and for the most part, the lumps can be arranged in any order. The only constraint is that either the armature or the stator has to be connected via the F/R switch.

As for the different makes/models of controllers, the only part of the controller that is actually in the high amp circuit are the MOSFETs (speed control valve), which are located between the B- and M- terminals.

Those diagrams sum up everything in question. Thanks.

Way to awake a old thread but I am doing the same thing and was following the carts unlimited diagram for F&R. When I look at the Alltrax manual the #5 and #8 terminals are switched from the CU one. I am good to follow the Carts Unlimited diagram correct?

In one of Johnnie's last posts above #12. He showed 5 different ways to wire a series cart that are all correct. The wiring diagram you received from cartsunlimited.net with your components are also correct. They may be specific to your components polarity constraints. Follow the instruction you received with your component(s).

Newer solenoids and reversing contactors have a magnetic breakout feature which reduces contact wear and pitting for extended life. These will have some different cabling from what used to be the standard practice.
Always best to simply follow the instructions sent with the product whatever it is.

Sounds good. I already had it all wired up the way your F&R sheet shows so I will leave it that way. Just gotta put batteries back in and ill be out testing!
