Quick Basic Brake Question
With my TXT up on jack stands, am I correct in assuming that there should be no resistance or noise when spinning the rear wheels?
Also, I shouldn't have any play when pulling out on the hubs, correct? I have some resistance on both rear hubs and one of them looks to be out of round. Just ordered new heavy duty hubs/drums from Scotty, and new bearings and shoes from another site sponsor. If everything is new and adjusted properly, should there be any play or noise when spinning the rear wheels? Thanks |

Re: Quick Basic Brake Question
Correctly adjusted rear drums will have a very light amount of resistance (brake shoe will make a little sound spinning inside the drum). Key here is Very Light, like if you spin the wheel, it will stop within a half a rotation. Should roll freely on the ground, and should not have any "tough spots" that are hard to turn past.

Re: Quick Basic Brake Question
Virtually zero. The hub nut should be plenty tight, the only play Is in the wheel bearing (and play in the groove where the bearing lives). The bearing is located by 2 snap rings (one inboard of the bearing, one outboard of the bearing). Very little play should be present, so little you should not see or hear much movement. If you have toasted bearings now, you likely will have enough in-out play to make it click when pushing-pulling. If your hub nut is currently loose, no assessment of noise or play can be made. (either remove the drum, or tighten it)

Re: Quick Basic Brake Question
The TXT rear axle nut torque is 90 - 140 foot pounds. Anything less will result in hub failure.
