4 wheel drive conversion
I have been thinking about using a Second motor and controller to convert my cart to 4 wheel drive. Has anyone done this type of conversion? How did it go? Anything to keep in mind?

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
Ha yeah, obviously I would be adding some sort of front end. I'm lucky enough to access to a full machine shop. Including a waterjet machine. I was just wondering if anyone else has attempted this.

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
Bad boy buggies run a separate motor and drive up front for the 4wd right?

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
There is a company that makes a front end with motors in the hubs. Real slick setup from what I can tell and would be much less power loss than a complete axle/driveline.

I did see those, but they were an expensive setup....2500 for the set. Might be the way to go though,

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
I thought I saw a drive motor at each wheel. Slick set up. Eliminates the need for a differential and puts the power where the load is.

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
Yep that's what I was looking at...pretty much looked like driven hubs.

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
I pondered 4wd when I was building my cart but was pleasantly amazed at what it was capable of with only the back wheels workin' together. Even with 4 wheel "dig", the limiting factor will be either, power, small wheels and/or the lack of ground clearance under the diff.

Re: 4 wheel drive conversion
I can believe that as well...basically I am going to upgrade my controller and motor, and thought......I wonder if I could put the old system on the front. Just something I'm exploring.
