Swapping 36V motor into 48V cart

I have a 36V 1996 EZGO golf cart that I've gotten tired of fixing. Everything is breaking down on it, but it has a newer motor and good batteries.
I have have a 48V 2001 Club Cart that is in pretty good shape but has worn out batteries and a motor that doesn't do more than like 11 MPH...downhill :)

The EZGO easily does 18+. What I was thinking was I could put the 36V motor in the 48V cart and then put put in the 36V batteries. I have already bypassed the computer on the 48V cart and so was thinking I can hook up the older cart's charger to it.
My question is, would this work? Would a 36V EZGO motor go into a 48V club cart? Would the 36V batteries work on the 48V hardware?

If switching the battries is not doable, I was thinking of just leaving the aging 48V pack which would give them more life, since the 36V motor would go longer on a charge? The 48V cart can go about 4 miles on a charge. I figure the 36V motor would suck less juice and go longer?

Any thoughts?

No, they have different spline count.

ok. How about putting in the 6x6V batteries and adding another 2x6V batteries to the existing bunch? It adds up to 48. Can I hook up the 48V charger I'm using to charge them up?

That way, it only costs me 180 or so, rather than 900.

Can you run 8/6v batteries for 48v?
Certainly, it will be heavy but run time will be longer.
If you are handy you might look and see if the whole Ezgo rearend with the new motor would go into the CC ?

Unfortunately, the rear axle is stripped. It spins without moving the cart.
Failed to mention that. I don't want to spend any more money on the EZGO as it's already beat up.
