Painting Canopy
2012 club car precedent. White body, black seats, and beige canopy. Thinking about painting the canopy either white or black. Any tips on techniques and what products to use?

Re: Painting Canopy
I'd sand it really lightly to rough it up for better adhesion and to keep it smooth. Then paint it with some good quality spray paint, like Rustoleum. Do it in several thin coats- it's really easy to let it drip, and that's a pain to clean up, as it doesn't sand easily.

Re: Painting Canopy
I would:
Clean with Simple Green or other good cleaner, agitate with brush and rinse well Clean with Prep Spray, wiping well with a clean cloth ( you will use a lot ) https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-E...HSGZ358Q9EQP0P Apply Adhesion Promoter, here is one I have used https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-C.../dp/B0007UAXJQ From there you can apply paint like ColorMaxx, Fusion, or another that is designed for Plastics. |

Re: Painting Canopy
All good advice above. However, I have never seen any paint stay on a top forever.
I would have to really hate a beige top to paint it. Just my 2 cents. |

Re: Painting Canopy
I have done 3 tops. All I do is wash them. Then I spray on black truck bed liner. No worries of over spraying in spots or lines. Once dry it’s all one even coat. Never had a problem of peeling up. Can cost $6-7 bucks at Lowe’s.

Re: Painting Canopy
I sprayed mine, after cleaning, with Plasti dip. If it starts to look rough, score the area with a razor blade, peel it and recoat.

Re: Painting Canopy
Go to a good paint supply not a big box and get something called stixx or sticks, it's made for this purpose. You can then paint to the color of choice.

Re: Painting Canopy
This is what I do and have never had a peeling roof. Clean and scrub with simple green, sand with 60-100 grit, and then paint with raptor liner (spray application).

Re: Painting Canopy
I’ve seen spray on bedliner peels off but never paint for me. The bedliner likes to bubble up and come off in one big piece after a few years.
(I’ve never applied it myself but I’ve removed several jobs...) |
