2009 rear end whine best fix?
Everyone. I have that common whine in the rear end of my rxv i just bought. Its the 48 volt 2009 rxv AC motor. Its loud but not to the point where i can't stand it. Has anyone just replaced the input shaft bearings and had any luck? I've read a lot of posts of people seeking guidance on what to replace but not a lot of follow up "success" posts on what worked to get it quiet. Anyone had luck replacing something specific?

Re: 2009 rear end whine best fix?
I have a 2008 PDS rather than an RXV, but the differentials are basically the same other than the gear ration and the RXV has a limited slip pig.
I replaced both bearings on the input shaft and the whine is still there. Next step is to replace the input gear, which in retrospect, I should of done when I replaced the bearings. The differential gears are lubricated by oil climbing their teeth against gravity and being uppermost gear, the input gear gets the least amount of oil and the most wear. |

No, or at least I doubt it since you can find a input gear/shaft kit for under $100 on-line (Part# 620329)
Here's a service & parts manual for the transaxle used in a RXV. |

Re: 2009 rear end whine best fix?
I JUST did this on my RXV. Got a new input gear w/ bearings on AMZ for $60. Fairly straightforward swap, and the old bearing was toast.
I'll say this though, it was much more of a grinding sound that was fixed. The AC motor still makes a bit of what I would call a whine sound. I still had a slight grind/vibration in sync w/wheelspeed and after jacking up and spinning rear wheels, it's rear wheel bearing replacement next. |

I had no luck with replacing only the input shaft, it was the whole gearset producing these loud whining noise! Before changing every single part of the transaxle, it's better to purchase a new or remanufactured assembly in my opinion. The new rearend is totally silent now!
