Default 36v batteries on 48v motor

I am planning on doing an overhaul on my 2008 PDS. It is a 36v. I’ve purchased a FSIP 48v torque motor and an Altrax 500 controller. Did I screw myself? I wasn’t planning on switching to 48v for a year or two. I was told I could run it on 36v for now and upgrade to 48v later. I’ve been looking at the forums to see how to do the swaps and I’m now reading that people are saying you can burn up the motor and controller if you run it with 36v. Any advice would be appreciated.

Check out my post on saving a Pair of 875's. I have a Titan Cargo that is 48v but with a suspect controller. I was actually thinking about downsizing to 36 to save weight and battery replacement cost. It will live an easy life of towing small airplanes and working charity events so it doesn't need the power. Keep me in mind if you move forward and want to get rid of the 36V motor and controller.

There is no question that I’m going to remove them, I’m just trying to figure out if I have to buy new batteries and a charger when my batteries are only a couple of years old. I’ll let you know what I do with the old ones. It will be July when I do the swap.

No a 48 volt does not do good on 36 volts. Should put in the 8 volt batteries and the Alltrax controller and run the 36 volt motor. and would be up and running on 48 volts. Just Put the Alltrax in and run it on 36 volts until you get the rest of the stuff to go 48v. You need a solenoid for 48v, a charger for 48v, and some 6 volt batteries

I need the motor to get up the hills in my neighborhood. Controller won’t help me there.

You need a solenoid for 48v, a charger for 48v, and some 8 volt batteries to make that happen. The controller will make a difference on 36 volts over the stock controller. Is this cart lifted with large tires?

It is lifted with big tires. I’ve got the solenoid. I just need the batteries and the charger. Unfortunately I spent my budget already on everything else on the premise that I was told I could use everything on 36v batteries.

Got ya. The tires are what is really hurting you on a stock PDS cart. The only way to do it with out all the parts to go 48v is. Controller - 48v charger and the 8v batteries, and run on the stock 36v motor. That would of made a big difference

If you put the controller in and put the stock tires back on it will make a big difference

I guess I wasn’t clear. I have already purchased everything I need other than the batteries and charger. I got the cart as is(no old tires) but i purchased a new motor, controller, solenoid, and 2g cables because I was told I could run it on 36v. I guess I’ll just have to wait and swap it all when I can get the batteries and charger.
