Default RXV receptacle question

Did some maintenance on a EZGO RXV golf cart for a friend. Cleaning up battery acid. There is a gray wire with a black box on it that was just hanging on by a thread. It is connected to the charger receptacle. What does this wire do for the cart? Will he need a new charging receptacle? It is no longer connected to the main pos terminal.

Temp sensor for the charger. If it is still charging you can just run with it. If not you can replace the sensor or the charger port.

That grey "wire" is a 2 conductor cable that connects the thermister inside of the block to the epoxy covered circuit board in the charging port. Do not cut that grey cable to attach it to the battery terminal with a lug. It will stop the cart from working if you do that. It literally measures the internal temperature of the battery by the heat following the metal in the battery, out to the post it attaches to. It'll still function when disconnected from the battery, it just will not monitor battery temperature any more.

Bob, I have had many of these where the ring terminal corroded off and the only solution was either replace the receptacle (and get a new set of the wires coming from it) or cut the black block off the grey wire and stip back the red and black wires contained within it to connect them together.

Connecting a 10K resistor to those wires should allow it to operate fairly normally.
