Alltrax axe controller?
Just bought a really clean 93 marathon. Planning on lifting, tires, 48 volt and controller. Anyone able to id this controller? It doesn't have any model numbers on it.

Re: Alltrax axe controller?
Found it. Was on the bottom facing the ground.the cart is currently running 36 volt. My plans were to upgrade to 48 volt and run 20" tires to cruise the flat neighborhood. I'm thinking good set of battery cables to get the most out of it and save $800 upgrading to a larger controller?

Re: Alltrax axe controller?
While it's only a 300a controller, the controller is already capable of the 48v conversion you have in mind. The 36v solenoid is very "sketchy" on 48v, I did that for a while successfully, but I had a much bigger solenoid than that little baby one you have. Your solenoid was barely adequate in stock form. Your 36v motor will do fine on 48v, with an asterisk ( *fine on 48v, assuming it's in ok health right now).
Heres a "cheap as possible, and start saving your money now 'poor mans' upgrade path" to get you going. You will absolutely need - 6x new 8v batteries- dont buy garbage- it's a big investment. - a 48v charger, that's "non-negotiable", cant "make your 36v charger work for now" - a decent upgrade 48v solenoid, buy a "upgrade" one now, save trouble later. - probably some cables, the ones you have now probably wont reach the new battery terminals (8v batteries have different battery post locations) Things you will want later, I left off the list of "bare minimum to get by for now" - a volt meter for your dash, so you know when it's time to go home & charge - a full set of new cables, every single one that's the size of "battery cables" should be upgraded to a larger size (stock size was meant for "light duty" like golfing). And the crusty old cables are likely in bad shape. - better (faster) motor for street use, and bigger controller to power the new motor (this pair is optional, but you are gonna find out quickly that you want this). - upgraded "forward & reverse switch", your crusty old one is very high on the list of "most likely to fail soon". Some other things you'd better do sooner, rather than later- - change out the axle oil, who knows how long it's been since that was changed - remove brake drums, inspect, clean & grease the axle/drum splines, followed by "re-torque" the spindle nuts that held the drums on (drum splines is a very common failure point). Will leave you on the side of the road if neglected. |
