Wolf, if the starter rebuild turns out to be good, I would start looking at a weak or low charged battery. All terminal connections have to be clean and tight!!

As far as jetting, drilling out the main jet with an .042 drill bit, makes a stock 285 run pretty good at 1100 feet elevation. But it has to run perfect before you start doing this kind of stuff!! Also have to gut the air box of all its innerds!!

And bigger gauge wire is ALWAYS a good idea if the termination points are clean and tight!! Ask CGHe's the MAN

This is a picture of my cart as I was preparing for my VC460 upgrade. The original air box was a mess. I also had a gas drip from the carb. I replaced the carb - insulator - air filter and gaskets -- it ran great till I started having mass electrical issues.

Your work is very clean but I see a problem -- the negative cable loop is way to large for the stud its mounted on. As we all know electrons flow from negative to positive and that loop is only connected on a thin side strip. When it starts that will make a hot spot where limited current can pass -- in time it will loosen and it may leave you stranded.
