jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
Hello, new to the forum, very informative, ive been searching trying to find anything on my problem with little to no luck
1998 ez go workhorse d&d high torque motor d&d 480v controller, series the problem i am having is when i am trying to start out slow the cart will get jumpy and you can here the solenoid clicking on and off as it jumps it does not seem as bad in reverse but still does do it. with the key off i press on the peddle and it seems i hear a micro switch in the throttle box click but it does not seem to click until the throttle is at least a quarter of the way pushed down, i am not sure how it is supposed to work but it seems to me that i am at 1/4 throttle before the switch allows the power to flow making it jump forward and if your trying to start out slow you hit it right at that point where it is clicking on and off because your foot is light on the peddle causing it to jerk you forward rather than start off slow. almost like its full speed ahead or nothing. i want to get it where i can start off slowly so my mother in law can use it at my wedding to run up the paved driveway, she cannot walk long distances or handle being jerked around on the golf cart too much. i am looking for advice on how to go about fixing this or if i even am on the right track here |

Welcome to BGW
Sounds like you need to adjust the ITS. Heres how. EZGO ITS Throttle Adjustment |

I agree with what roady is telling you, but also did you program the controller, did it just start doing this, or after the upgrade.

this cart is new to me so i did not do the upgrades and do not know how the controller was programed. the man i got it from had it worked on at a shop a few towns away from here. i did not notice the problem when i first drove it but i wasn't trying to ease along, i wanted to make sure it would make it up the hill out back a bunch of times before i bought it so it may have been doing it and i just didn't notice. thanks again for the info, i will let you know what happens. EDIT:just popped the cover off the throttle box and the plunger is about 3/4" from the its the diagram says it should be7/64 i am going to try and adjust it |

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
well i adjusted the plunger to the proper place and i adjusted the round contact piece that the micro switch rides on so that the switch disengages just before the plunger enters the its and it starts out nice and steady now but it still seems to get that jumpyness where it is like the ITS is not reading properly, it jumps around from slow to full throttle. i think it might be going bad, you still here the solenoid clicking like its engaging and disengaging the motor. it does start out better but still not perfect.

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
At the top of pic 2 it shows what thee ITS should measure at stopped and wide open.
0.4-0.6 solenoid activated through 1.5-1.7 volts pedal all the way down. If its anything else the ITS is bad. Most times they'll read 12+ volts and then are bad. |

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
thanks roady i will check my voltages, i just wanted to try and get it adjusted right first and see how that worked. i will try and test the voltage today. only thing, when it says to hook negative to b- at battery i am assuming that it means the last negative poll in the pack but am not sure if that is correct. it also says to set the park brake but i cannot do that and still push the peddle down so i will put some blocks in front of the front tires and jack up the back so it free wheels when i push the peddle down.

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
This could be a solenoid dropping in and out because of solenoid failure, or control circuit inconsistencies. Key switch could be arcing, ITS micro could be failing, Reed switch could be flaking out, etc. Have you tried jumping the solenoid? Also, what is the pack voltage and have the batteries been load tested?

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
pack voltage is at 39.7 right now??? seems high to me the ITS reads .50 volts when the solenoid kicks in than 2.38 when full throttle, by the erlier post that means its bad???? batteries are all new with 5 half hour runs on em and charged up after each run, water levels good

Re: jumpy at low speed ITS throttle
Just had that problem with my cart that has a 5.5 hp electric motor and 750 amp controller. It ended up being an adjustment with the v-glide (speed controller). Adjusted the gas pedal lingage so all the contacts were being hit instead of just the top 7.
Good luck !! |
