RXV Battery questions
I'm new to golf cart ownership and deep cycle batteries. Picked up an 09 RXV last night with original t-1260 plus batteries (except for 1 2010 t-1275, I assume warranty replacement?). Charged the batteries and green light was blinking for at least 2 hours then faulted to single red blink. Unplugged let rest then plugged back in for the rest of the night. This morning I awoke to the same single red blink. Checked voltage and one battery was 11.9 all others were 12.5. Also checked water levels. Battery with 11.9 had two cells that were showing lead and one other battery had one that was showing in 5 cells. Put in distilled water to cover lead. Plugged charger back in. Charged for about 2 more hours before faulted and showed single red blink. Let rest for about 30min-1hour and checked voltage. All batteries are registering 12.5-12.7. Total pack is showing 50.9 volts. I want to check water levels and specific gravity but the batteries are still bubbling after about 2 hours off the charger. Going to swap out chargers this evening and give it a try. I have a powerwise qe charger.
My questions are: 1) Is it normal for batteries to continue to bubble several hours after they are unplugged from the charger? 2) What is the possible causes for the charger faulting. |

Re: RXV Battery questions
That is not the same issue I'm having. I only have a single red blink (charge enable/ battery temp) not a red/green combination blink.

Re: RXV Battery questions
Clean all the battery cable connections, including the contacts in the charger port.
A fully charged 12V Trojan deep-cycle battery will measure 12.73V approximately 12 hours after charge terminates. The voltages you measured about an hour after charger shut off will be artificially high since you are reading a surface charge voltage rather that the At-Rest voltage. The T-1275 is a 150AH battery while the T-1260 is only 140AH, and the T-1275 is newer, so there is a significant mismatch in you battery pack and the T-1275 is being undercharged while the three T-1260 batteries are being overcharged. Whoever installed the T-1275 in a 48V battery pack made up of T-1260 batteries, didn't do the cart owner any favors. The pack is charged in series, so the batteries must be closely matched in storage capacity to charge equally. Yes, the batteries can continue to bubble for quite a while after the charger shuts off. The Hydrogen and Oxygen gas bubbles stop forming on the plates when the charger shuts, but they continue to rise to the surface until they have all risen to the surface. |

Re: RXV Battery questions
Thanks. I checked each cell with a hydrometer last night after a 12 hour rest. and the three 1260's each had at least 1 bad cell. Two had 2 bad cells. I'm guessing batteries have to be replaced now. Opinions?

Re: RXV Battery questions
Replace all four with the highest AH batteries you can find at the best price, locally.

My fingers were doing just fine, and my brain was engaged.

Re: RXV Battery questions
You're right. I was thinking about 6.37, not 12 volt batts.
