Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
Looks like a good day of work.
How much wire did you get it took me almost 30ft to do everything. Just FYI Missouri wind and solar on ebay has 4ga ends 20 for 10 bucks delivered Best price around on other sizes to. No ofiliation or anything just that some places charge 2.50 or more thats expensive when you need 20 or 30 Your new wires should last a long time! |

Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
30' WOW. I just finished mine, sepex, and the controller is in front of the batts and used less than 18 feet. Now I didn't use #2 for the fields, used 6 gauge left from the old system.

Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
Thanks
What does the connector look like, I looked for a closed cup so no corrosion/acid can get into the tip of the cable Almost a $1 each though. Got 25' of each, red/black Did find #4 awg for $.74/foot & adhesive heat shrink 100' for $92 + free shipping over $250 order Wesbell electronics Will order some if I start making cables for the cart barn guy. |

Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
replacing only part of the system with 4ga does you no good and creates a resistance in the "circuit".

Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
On my setup, the fields never see a full 500 amps, only 325 and even that only for a short time. Hence the 1/4" studs. The engineer [Steve] that did my setup told me 10 or 8 gauge for the fields is enough but I had good 6 left over so I'm still over spec.

Re: #4 AWG welding cable upgrade
Here is a pic of the ends they're the closed ends like you want at .50 a piece. That's the best price I could find.
They can be hard to find on Ebay but keep looking and you can find them. |
