![]() Today I was hooking up the key switch I got from CPP and am not sure what wire goes to what terminal. Here are the instructions and the switch, and also a picture of the engine. I had this engine up and running but removed it to put in another cart project.

![]() My guess is you run ground to the 'M' like shown and the other 'M' goes to the kill wire from the coils, and you don't use the 'I' circuit . Use the others as shown. But you should test that to be sure. It should connect the 'M' circuit when 'off' and connect nothing when 'run'. If you run 12v to the B&S coils it will damage them. The flywheel run coils on B&S and clones are magnetos, the kill wire grounds to kill the engine and nothing to run.

![]() DittoI guess the I would be for something like an electric fuel pump.

![]() You should have continuity between the 2 M 's when on but not read any voltage when connected to the battery.

![]() Yes, test the M both to the 12v terminal they should never connect in any key position. The M should connect to the other M only when 'off'. Then you are good, one M to the coil kill wire and the other to engine block (which should be ground to battery, so you can use battery ground if so). The 'I' likely goes 12v when 'on', to power fuel pump or ignition on a different engine, etc. Sometimes you need it for charging system or something. The start terminal should go 12v only at 'start' to run the starter solenoid.

![]() Ok so both "M" lugs are to ground?
This was the setup for a JD/Cub tractor ignition switch. So this one shows the ground going to the "G" terminal on that switch, which is obviously ground. On the new switch I have, there isn't a "G". Which terminal on this new switch would be the ground? The "M" with no label? |

![]() The 'M's should connect when off, they should not go to anything else in the switch. One goes to ground and one to the kill wire on the coils (I doubt it matters what one is what). When you turn the key off it connects them thus grounding the coils and killing the engine. The key switch needs a ground for no other purpose. Though on some lawn mowers the key switch is metal, it has no ground, and it must ground through its mounting. So those will not kill the engine unless they are bolted to metal that is grounded to engine.

Working on my neighbors cart and I accidentally hooked a power wire to the "M" terminal and fried my diodes. Now the engine won't start. So I ordered the diodes, now I can wire it up right. This switch just threw me for a loop, much different than my other one. Here is the switch on my cart. |

![]() Did you get switch figured out? I can send you a pic of what goes where. if you look up 9 post at the center pic you posted with the switch held like that.
top left 11 oclock connects to ground top right 1 oclock is hot from battery center right 3 oclock connects to shutoff stud on engine bottom 6 oclock fuel shutoff solenoid lower left 8 oclock to spade terminal on solenoid (activates solenoid) |
