They can suck oil past the head gasket. Was gasket replaced? Head milled? Surface on block flat?

Compression rings could be good and still have a bad oil ring.

Leak down test has to do with compression like gear Head said compression rings could be good but oil ring could be bad

Mine does the same thing...
Compression is good, it runs well and perfect no issues at all other than it smokes and will consume oil also...
It's the oil ring that is bad like posted above...
Engine will have to come apart to fix or just live with the puffs of smoke it'll give out and keep an eye on the oil level

in a leak down test you have both valves closed, pump compressed air in cylinder with a gauge built into the air hose. You will need a shut off valve after the gauge. Shut off air to cylinder and watch the gauge. That will only tell you if everything is seated!

If the air bleeds off it could be valves, head gasket or rings.
