Lost, once again
Once again, I am lost trying to get my cart moving. It's come a long way from when i got it, but i still think it has a long way to go. its an 89 marathon
the fuel pump must be growing weak because to get it to start pumping fuel i have to pressurize the gas tank. I sent the carb out to my local repair shop and they thoroughly cleaned and checked everything out for me, they said it was good to go. I hooked the carb up, got the fuel to pump, and i'm also getting good spark. I've loosened up the muffler to see if it was clogged but no matter what i can't get this old girl to start up. It'll pop consistently but just won't kick up to go. I'm lost now, sorry bout the long rant, hope you guys can shed some light on my situation forgot to mention, the people who owned it before me were less than kind to it...i found a stick in the gas tank while cleaning it...no wonder it doesn't want to run |

Re: Lost, once again
The PG engine like all 2 cycles is very intolerant of air leaks. If you have had the carburetor off then check for air leaks at the mating surfaces. However a weak fuel pump and a failure to start suggest worn or blown cranksaft seals. Try squirting a shot of gas/oil into the air intake and cranking the engine. Also try starting in reverse as this might twist on the seal and tighten it up enough.

Re: Lost, once again
if you have an 89 you have a 3pg. when you have the engine out pull the fuel pump and check the diaphrams. you can get rebuild kits, but a new on is only about $33. good luck, it is nifty little engine.

Re: Lost, once again
the previous owner had told me it was an 89. I'm guessing its older than because its got the vertical muffler, 2pg?

Re: Lost, once again
nice, glad it is because i already ordered the parts. probably wouldn't have been a good thing to check on before hand though. Is there anything else right off that should probably be changed out if the carts been sitting for around a year?
