Re: Still backfiring!
Caddy, yes that can happen. But if you don't allow the motor to stop turning, (keeping your foot on the throttle just a bit) the clutch will stay engaged, and will act as grade braking, (holding the car from freewheeling down the hill). Speed will be controlled like a real car.

Re: Still backfiring!
Thinking about mine, I can have a tiny pop at the end of a long decell. I'm wondering if you have a the idle mixture screw just a bit too rich. I have mine set rich to help in cooling here in Phoenix.

Re: Still backfiring!
If the belt is engaged at speed and you go down a hill it will engine brake some and engine stays spinning. If you near stop at the top and let the engine stop, then roll down a hill the belt will spin but engine will not usually. You get some belt drag but it will coast.
Otherwise you can keep your foot on the gas idling and brake with the other foot, if its running no backfire then. |

Re: Still backfiring!
This is true, you could do that. However, when your heading down a very steep hill, and at the bottom is a boat ramp into the lake, don't try this!!!!! Most of the time there is someone there taking out a jet ski, or boat, so I guess I could just plow into them, and be fine. Its those days when no one is there, and the lake looks so inviting!!! Note to self: Water proof golf cart...
Mike, why didn't you tell me months ago that your cart goes 'poof'?!!! That's all its doing now, is poof... |

Re: Still backfiring!
Lol, well you do have to be good at holding your foot on the gas just enough to idle not apply power....and its not easy if you are braking and on a steep hill. You can always yell really loud, "Oh Ssssh......." and I bet everyone will get out of the way really fast...
Could also stop at the bottom and then takeoff it might not do it. |

Re: Still backfiring!
Ok G9, Now YOUR on my growing list of MEAN people!
We have MOUNTAINS not hills in every direction here. Thats why they call it a VALLEY!! You said; cactus, rocks and sand. Where's the MUD? I'd have to drive 1400mi. east to find mud!! And no, my cart doesn't wear a diaper, but it's parked on carpet in my shop every nite.(Don't want to scuff the tires, ya know!) Also why is it, that every thread that Mason is in, turns into a cut down session? |

Re: Still backfiring!
the blue cart i just finished sits on carpet now also. mine likes the mud or maybe its just me. my cart back fired alot also and i found that the vales were set to tight and not closing all the way like they should. when i took the valve cover off i couldnt even move them because they were so tight on the valve.

Re: Still backfiring!
The blue cart is done, i just couldnt find a big enough 43 for it. i did find a large STP decal for the back of it. i found a 440 decal for the front of it that i put like the mopars had on the hood. i will get some finished pictures of it as soon as im allowed to see it again..
