this is an interesting solution. I have an 88 G1 that isnt running so hot right now, slow to get up and go. What would be some possible symptoms that having my own muffler BBQ would solve?

so all you do is sit the muffler on top of the fire? or do you need to get the fire up inside the muffler?

On a related note, back in the late 70's I owned a brand new 50cc Yamaha FS1E motorbike. The exhaust would require cleaning every 500 miles or so but it was pretty easy since you simply removed the baffle pipe from the muffler and cleaned it out. I wonder why more modern Yamaha vehicles never followed that idea ? BBQing the whole pipe looks like fun but it would be one heck of a lot simpler with a removable baffle like that little bike had.

ok this may be a dumb question, but is there any benefit to doing this to a muffler on a G9?

Not a dumb question. G9 being a 4 stroke shouldn't have a build up of oily gunk. Blow compressed air through it the same direction as when running. Do it outside could be a large cloud! Use a rag to seal up the blow gun. Make sure it blows through freely.
