Default Drive Clutch Not Opening

Neighbor asked me to look at his non-starting and badly maintained Club Car DS gas.
Turned out to be a duff battery. Now it starts and revs up but the drive clutch is not working. At full rpm the moveable face or cover is not moving at all. Neighbor said it was working before the no-start situation.
Rotating by hand some small piece is clinking inside. Tapped the clutch face with a plastic hammer and some black dust came out.
Any specific thing that would cause the drive clutch to stay closed?
He did say they towed it over a mile after it quit.

Default Drive Clutch Not Opening

Don't know about the clinking part (doesn't sound normal) but use an air compressor with a nozzle to blow into the clutch. I'd bet a lot of dust comes out. It's not recommended but after blowing the clutch out, a couple of small squirts of lubricant inside the clutch holes worked for me. Clutch opens every time now. If your lucky, the clinking is just the clutch plates making a little contact with each other.

FYI, my clutch face always rotated. You can try the above first but it sounds like you may have to open up the clutch. Good luck, they can be very hard to open.

When towing the belt rotates and slips on the drive clutch it
may have gotten the drive clutch very hot.

Thanks gwunited2 and DOOmsman.
Tried the compressed air and more dust came out, but the clutch is still locked solid.
Of course they are wondering why it worked before and now it wont.
I explained about the towing.
Hopefully can get it pulled tomorrow and see what the deal is.
