could it be flooding G11a

recently my 1997 G11a would not run without the choke on. i took apart and cleaned the fuel pump first, it was pushing gas. Then took out the carburetor, cleaned it up, gumout followed by compressed air, put it back and it ran. Now after its warm it will run without the choke, much improved however it does not start right away, and I have to fiddle with the throttle to get it just right and then it slowly comes to life. (starts and moves) Also with the drive belt off when I get it started and mash on the gas peddle it bogs out, if I dont lift off the pedal it stalls. I feel like its flooding when I try to full throttle it.

any help be appreciated

Carl, keep at it. Might be, "idle mixture screw", screw in till it lightly bottoms out. Then open it one and a half turns to start.

Warm engine, then start turning it out, or in, an eighth turn at a time, then stab throttle, "in neutral of course", till you get the best throttle response.

Also might check float level, black spark plug means fuel is getting past "float needle valve".

OK Mike, I have tried to adjust the "idle mixture screw" as per your instructions, but It did not help all the way in and out.

The plug is another story, yes it is real black. This is all new to me so I'm not sure what is meant by "fuel getting past float valve needle", and how to make that adjustment, maybe you could tell me how to do that, thanks

You need to take the carb all apart. The float in side the the bowl on the bottom of the carb. Attached to the float is a small needle valve that goes into the carb body. That needle valve or the seat in the carb body may have crud stuck in there.

Need to remove all the parts on the carb and spray carb cleaner through all the little holes. Don't remove the throttle shaft or the butterfly that is attached to it tho.

OK, I took the carb apart, any screw I could find. Removed the float hinge pin took the float off and the needle valve, cleaned the needle valve which looks to be clean and in good shape, looks like a pointed rubber tip on the business end. Sprayed carb cleaner inside everything, stuck a bread wrapper wire through everything and then forced compressed air through. The issue still exists, but there is a slight improvement in that now when I mash on the gas in neutral it wants to start but quickly bogs out again. Before it would not even hint at starting without backing way off the gas and finding “that spot” in the throttle which then would start. Also I put in a new plug and its wet and getting black except for the tip of the ground electrode, its ashy white
When I started this it would not start or continue to run without holding the choke on, so I am making some progress.
I appreciate the help, willing to try whatever you think next.

ok lets start basic all yamaha's gotta have a sealed air intake check the hose's clamps and air filter , we all know that these can cause nightmares for starting and bogging take all of the intake apart to check how much air you are leaking past the hose's and connections if the system is pulling air from anywhere but through the filter it will not run right.

Does your G11 have a "flat" or "round" air filter?
