Problem with Stop Switch or Solenoid??
We have a 2001ish EZGO Electric Golf Cart. When we press the gas pedal down, SOMETIMES you will hear the click sound which should send a current to the Solenoid and then it runs. But sometimes that clicking does not sound. We bought a new Solenoid and installed it, and the golf cart still at times will not move. Like there is some connection, not connecting a current to make the cart move. If you switch the cart in reserve, sometimes it will go, other times, it will not, but the sounds is always there when its in reverse. Could it be the switch plate on the pedal that is bad, so it is not making a connection at all times? It will run great half of the time, then the other half, you are driving it, and it just stops and will not move.

Ours has a forward/reverse switch in between the driver and passenger. It is like a lever you move back and forth to determine if you want to go foward or reverse.

ok so it's either Series or DCS.... Does the black plastic cover under the Passenger's butt have a toggle switch on it or not?

No, the plastic box cover does NOT have a toggle switch on it.

Re: Problem with Stop Switch or Solenoid??
Which means you have a series cart.
When it is NOT working, follow this testing method to determine where the fault it located: Txt solenoid activation power starts on the white wire on the 36+ of the battery pack. Power travels to the charger receptacle, goes through a reed switch inside the receptacle and comes out on the red 12 gauge red wire. ( check for power here, 1st!) the red wire travels back through the loom to the forward and reverse switch where it attaches to a micro. The other side of that micro has a blue wire attached that runs under the cart to the front and arrives at the keyswitch. The keyswitch then transfers power to a green wire which returns to the area of the forward and reverse switch. The power then goes through a 4 pin molex connector and travels to the "pedal box" (located under the floorboard of the car) where it goes through a micro and comes out on another red wire. That red wire comes back up to the controller/f&r area where it once again goes through the 4 pin molex connector and continues on to the small post of the solenoid |

Do you need something to test this stuff with? How do you know if these wires are working? Sorry, I'm a girl and don't know this stuff :)

Yeah, this is all pretty technical stuff .... for a girl
Sorry, I couldn't resist the way you set yourself up. You need a Digital multimeter and basic understanding of its functions like DC voltage readings and continuity testing... you would be surprised how many guys don't have a clue what that is, thankfully there is Google to give an explanation. |

Re: Problem with Stop Switch or Solenoid??
Actually, you should hear 2 clicks. 1st is the micro switch by the accelerator pedal, then the Solenoid. When you don't hear the Solenoid, do you hear the pedal switch?
I wouldn't monkey around those batteries if you don't know what you're doing. Not only can you cause more problems, but, you might get hurt..... Sounds like the pedal micro switch is failing sometimes. Feel free to lift the floor covering and inspect that if you feel like it. They are a problem area. Moisture gets into them and they fail. Probably the weakest link of the EZGo. |
