Speed upgrade?
I just purchased a 1994 Medalist and it came w new batteries but is very slow.
What do I need to do to increase speed? Motor, gears, wiring? I was told it only goes 13 MPH...pretty slow in our golf community. Thanks for the help... |

Re: Speed upgrade?
Welcome to BGW!
You can slap a hi-speed motor in it but you will need a bigger controller/solenoid combo to spin it with any authority, upgrade the cables and the F&R switch too. |

Re: Speed upgrade?
I believe that is stock speed for a golf course. What are you wanting to use it for.

Re: Speed upgrade?
Basically the controller is limiting the amount of amperage your motor can draw from the pack. If you get a bigger controller it will allow the motor to draw more amperage. however the motor will be trying to draw more amperage thru the old smallish cables. Kinda like you drinking a cold milkshake thru a straw This restricts the motors' performance and the resistance causes heat. Heat that can melt F&R switches and solenoids.
I hope this helps. |

Re: Speed upgrade?
Well my background is custom car audio so I'm very proficient in wiring.
I have everything from 0 to 4 ga wire in my garage. If my best bet is to upgrade my wiring, I can have it done in an hour. Then my next is the controller? Where do you rec buying that and is there a particular model/size I need? As far as my use, I live on a golf course but use it to ride thru our community as well. Thanks |

Send the motor to Plum Quick and ScottyB can hook you up with whatever else you need.

Re: Speed upgrade?
Dont use amp wiring. Strand count is not very high in audio cable....... Choice is yours tho.
