Cool power drive charging problems

I have a 48 volt 2002 club car. My problem is alittle different than the others I've been reading about. My charger will charge down to 5 amps and won't go off until I unplug the charger from the car and plug it back in. I think the relay in the charger is sticking (so to speed) rather than the computer having the problem because the charger will shut off it i do the preceding procedure.

the batteries are new this year and I have load tested all of them. they are fine.

what do you guys think.

Before you start replacing parts check your on-charge voltage at the stage when you would want to pull the plug at 5 amps. You should have a reading of 63-64.5 if the batteries are good. If the reading is not that high then the OBC still wants to charge. The easiest way of checking whether its a charger or OBC issue (if it is an issue) is to try get hold of another charger you can plug into your cart and see what the result is.

I agree w/ Golfdog. I would try another charger on the cart, then if it works correctly, you know you should get a repair kit for your charger...
Also, welcome to BGW greasegun!

I believe the shut off point is 60VDC.

DC OUTPUT
DC voltage (VDC)
(start of charge cycle) 48
DC current (amps)
(start of charge cycle) 17
DC voltage (VDC)
(end of charge cycle) 60
DC current (amps)
(end of charge cycle) 3.5

Sorry the best copy and paste available.

Not sure where the 60v shut off info comes from but the CC Manual says anywhere between 56 and 63v depending on age and state of the batteries. My 2000 car regularly cuts out at 64v and batteries are 4 yrs old.

. . . how long does charger run before you unplug it? . . . charging cycles can take up to 16 hours to complete . . .

had the charger run for 12 hours and checked it with a volt meter. voltage was at 61 volts, still didn't shut off. can you overcharge the battery pack?

The OBC shouldn't let the charger run more than 16 hours straight...
48v packs can get up above 60v while charging- it's normal

o.k. thanks, I'll let it go ahead and charge and check it from time to time with a volt meter see what happens.
