DS vs Precedent, hunting torque/speed winner??????
Have read some of the great info on this site. Looking at 04 DS and 04 Precedent. hard to pck which is the best for me, you know, opinions . . .!!!! Hunting strictly. Mostly level with some moderate incline. Want to haul 4 men. Proposed options are 500amp Curtis controllers with 7hp engine for Precedent, 14hp motor for DS. 6" lift, added leaf springs, rear fold down seat, 6- 8volt batts. Speed is not my concern. 15mph is great. I need the pulling ability to go up a hill and not ck up with 4 200lb men aboard. Hard to belive this is so hard of a choice. Btw, pricing for upgrade units are both at $4200 plus tax. direction and recommendations welcomed.

From what I have read here there are a lot more options with a DS to modify the cart.

I would go with the DS. Made for what you are looking for. The things I do with my DS surprises me. I use mine for hunting as well

IMHO, the DS is built better because it has more aluminum in the build of the cart, so it is pretty durable. Also, the DS has been around since the early 1980s, so it is probably a pretty good cart.

Not sure why you posted this. I have had both and the precedent has larger framerails and far more sturdier than the ds. As far as torque, you will probably get more out of a series cart compared to a sepex or regen system. But the Precedent is a sturdier build.

I have no experience with the Precedent. But everything that has been said about the DS has been true for me! I hunt on mostly flat ground, with a few south GA hills. We also have a few mud puddles. Nothing has stopped my cart so far.......

Re: DS vs Precedent, hunting torque/speed winner??????
I myself like the DS, but that is all that I've owned. I only have experience with the Precedents driving them at courses when I play golf...
The DS was made for 32 years with the only changes being the electrical system, so it has to be a good design. |

Re: DS vs Precedent, hunting torque/speed winner??????
If it was me: Series carts = simple, rugged, reliable. They tolerate the heat generated at low speed better than the sepex carts. Better for hunting. Draw back is no motor breaking (regen) or roll away protection but you won't have this on a sepex cart either if you change to aftermarket controller. All Precedents are sepex so rules them out for me for this application. Don't know when they stopped building series style DS's but I know they were available at least thru 2003.
DS seems wider to me. Wide comfortable seat compared to the Precedent. Precedent seat is hard. Of course an aftermarket seat would fix this. If it was me: DS with series electronics. |
