Default What to look for: buying a used club car precedent gas

Hello. I am looking at purchasing a used club car precedent gas golf cart. Last year I bought used 93 DS. Although this cart currently runs great, I had to spend way too much in repairs to get this cart running good. Now I am ready to sell the cart and take a loss. I need something more sustainable for long rides at the beach. After buying a lemon last time, I don't want to make the same mistake twice and I am asking for help from experienced individuals. What all should I look for when buying a used gas precenent?

go to a golf course that has gas carts and ask to speak to their mechanic. Politely ask them if they would be willing to do a quick "inspection" of the cart for you. This may cost you a case of premium beer but it will be well worth it.

A good mechanic will be able to spot many potential issues in the first 10 minutes of looking at a cart - usually takes me 5 :)

SOME COMMON PROBLEMS TO LOOK FOR ARE:

-ENGINE COMPRESSION 150PSI+/- IS GOOD (HILL TEST IT AND WATCH FOR SMOKE AFTER GOING FULL SPEED DOWN HILL)

-WORN OUT STARTER (POP A COVER AND LOOK AT THE BRUSHES, EVEN WITH NEW BRUSHES THE ARMATURE CAN BE GROOVED/WORN)

-CLUTCH STICKING / LOOSE

-SECONDARY CLUTCH WORN OUT

-WORN OUT FRONT AND REAR BUSHINGS

-STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT / DOES THE CART PULL TO SIDE

-BAD BEARINGS IN THE REAR TRANSAXEL (MAKES A RUBBING/GRINDING OR CACKLING NOISE)

-RUBBING OR GRINDING NOISE FROM THE CRANK (INSIDE ENGINE)

-STICKY VALVES

-LEAKING CRANKCASE COVER / CRANK SEAL

-CRACKS ON THE FRAME
