I'm with Lockman. Get that carb off and clean it, including idle passages. A booger in the main jet would be most noticeable under load, but you should get some hint of an idle in that case.
If not fuel pump, maybe consider fuel quality also(?)

New info: cleaned carb again verifying open jet with guitar string. Now realize NO fuel in float bowl, changed filters moving on to fuel pump replace or rebuild

To test a fuel pump just pull the line off going to the carb; turn the motor off by using the pedal. If fuel is squirting your good otherwise I would just get a new fuel pump. I think rebuilding usually leads to issues with it resealing but maybe others will chime in.

Thanks to all for the wisdom and advice. Problem was fuel filters.........and then bad fuel pump was simulated by......having the fuel valve shut off and not being able to see what the symbol was. I thought it was a crossed off gas pump......it was just a gas pump. Neighbor stopped over thinking my fuel pickup was bad as we had looked the fuel pump seals over finding no issues. So I tried to suck fuel into the first filter - restriction.......caused by the shutoff. Turned it on...problem solved.
Now I can continue with the rear of the lift kit and get it done. Lockman these would be Dean Markley strings
