1995 DS Club Car Gas has no spark
I have a 1995 DS Club Car - Gas model that has no spark at the plug. I've wrung out the wiring and everything looks ok. All things point to a bad coil however, when I use an ohm meter to read from the + to output of coil, it reads a resistance. When I put a test light on the coil input the test light flashes dimly. I cant think of a way to measure the output of the coil, except to put a plug in it and look for a spark, which there is none. Can a coil wring out as good, but not have an output?

Re: 1995 DS Club Car Gas has no spark
Welcome to BGW Bob!
Before getting into the thought of replacing the coil On a 1995, there are 2 things that work in conjunction with the coil to create/inhibit spark, One is an external ignitor, (#18 ) and the other is the rev limiter, (#16) First... disconnect the ground wire on the left mounting bolt of the rev limiter, and see if your spark comes back. (kind of expensive to replace, but easy to disable) If not... it just may be the ignitor, they're reasonably priced! ($3 to $10 depending) Checking both of those is the easiest before replacing the coil! Hope this helps! |

Thanks, Lockman1
I remover the limiter ground and have no spark. The coil seems to wring out. I guess I'll replace the igniter. |

Success.....bad wire. The plug wire boot is open. Cut the boot off and have a good spark. Needs a new plug wire. Thanks for the help, especially the diagrams.

Hopefully you didn't cut too much of the wire... the plug boots are a replaceable item! (the wire however, isn't!)

Whoa!
To be honest? I've never researched them until just now! (never needed to!) I've read a number of threads where people bought ignitors from their local small engine shop, and they they worked just fine for around $6! |

That's what I was looking at yesterday. They look to be exactly the same and fit kawasaki engines. Thanks
