does anyone ever answer question? or am i just confusing people here?
i have a 2004 ezgo txt 4 cycle gas engine with suspension problems. the symptoms is very bad sway from side to side at higher speeds when I hit a slight bump or dip in the road. When looking at the front of the cart, the passenger side sits what appears to be a few inches higher then the drivers side. if I rock the golf cart back and forth from the passenger side, the golf cart front passenger tire literally bounces off the ground with very minimal effort. if I do the same on the drivers side, its pretty solid and no way can I bounce the driver front tire off the ground. The only issues upon visual inspection is, I can see is the passenger wheel has a very slight play up and down on the king pin and the shock seems to be extended almost to its max. When the shocks go bad, would they extend all the way open(as in you pulled them apart)? is the play in the king pin normal? the tire rod and entire rack and pinion has been changed out. the leaf springs seem to be straight, solid and intact. I cant find anything else loose. but golf cart is almost undrivable do to the sway. wheel bearing are good or at least appear to be good. no slop, play or noise. I'm thinking bad shock but I would think they would be collapsed if bad. not fully extended. anyones help is greatly appreciated. I need to stop this sway!! thank you all

It sounds to me like the frame is tweaked.

I didn't no if I was asking a stupid question or if folks simply didn't understand what I was asking. I had a few views but no responses. Also, doesn't appear the frame is tweaked. there is a little up and down play in the passenger wheel which seems to be coming from the king pin. I don't know if that's normal play or if its suppose to be tight. I can easily bounce the passenger front tire off the ground with just 2 bounces and one hand. I no that's not normal. I guess i'll just throw parts at her and live and learn. lol...thanks very much for your input

A couple thoughts: Unless they totally seize up at one end or another of their travel, the shocks don't usually affect ride height. It's usually springs that are either bent or broken that cause that. A left rear spring that's bent or broken can cause the right front to sit too high, so look and measure all the way around and let us know what you find. It's tough to tell you more when we can't see and inspect your cart.

I think you might have just answered your on question.I don't have a cart as of now,but i work on cars that do the same thing.Shocks, bearings, tie rods, and so on.Jack up one side front wheel at a time and shake the wheel up and down and also side to side, easy enough not to move the wheel on the other side, and watch for loose parts.Do this on both left and right side, front and back.Hope this helps.

You say "The only issues upon visual inspection is, I can see is the passenger wheel has a
very slight play up and down on the king pin and the shock seems to be extended almost to its max. When the shocks go bad, would they extend all the way open(as in you pulled them apart)? is the play in the king pin normal? " On my 2003 DS the king pin has waverly washers which allow a very small UP and DOWN down play in relation to the spindle. Side to side is zero play. My stock shock is like a damper, push it in it stays, pull it out it stays. It has resistance in between. If your shock is seized some how I think it could cause the problem. I am not an EZ-GO guy but it may apply. |

Re: does anyone ever answer question? or am i just confusing people here?
I'll check the springs in the rear. I never thought about that. The shock moves up and down so I don't think it's froze in any position. The play in the king pin is very minimal up and down with no side to side. The rear spring may just be the issue causing the passenger front tire to bounce off the ground so easy. This cart is standard height with no lift kit. Thank you all

Re: does anyone ever answer question? or am i just confusing people here?
There should be no play up and down.Wheel bearing bad, and the shocks are bad also.Shocks are hard to push down and when you let go it should spring back out fast. They come tied closed and after you install one end you cut the tie and it will spring out so you can install the other end.Change shocks front and back first.Hope this Helps

Re: does anyone ever answer question? or am i just confusing people here?
The very slight up and down movement is def coming from king pin. Not wheel bearing, I'm going to change shocks for sure then go from there. So with the passenger side body sitting a few inches higher then drivers side would it indicate driver side shock is blown? Or rear leaf spring as was mentioned earlier?
