Default 1980 244cc Marathon backfires - Governor help

Hi everyone. I'm about finished with freshening up and adding some mods to my 1980 Marathon. I've been trying to find some adjustment instructions and engine schematics or diagrams showing the proper parts for the governor linkage. Some of mine are missing and engine backfires when you let up on the throttle. I believe a spring is missing and also a nut that secures the governor cable to the throttle itself. I'm also trying to find a reasonably priced service manual for these but they are expensive and hard to come by. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of times backfire on a cart is from throttle cable to tight when you step on the peddle you want the motor to start turning over before carb linkage starts to move

I would suggest eliminating the governor. All you need is the throttle, and choke.

I just ruined another laptop with a glass of water, so I can't post my files. Search my recent posts. You will see 2 carburetor pictures titled open throttle, and closed throttle. They show the spring you need to prevent backfiring. I have also recently posted pdf files of manuals for internal, and external starters. Pick the one you need.
