2000 EZGO 295cc Engine Rebuild
I have a 2000 EZGO TXT 295cc that I am about to rebuild engine due to smoking and using a little oil. Do you think it is okay to reuse the connecting rods or should they be replaced? If they need to be replaced would the aftermarket in the rebuild kits be alright or should I go with OEM? Thanks

Re: 2000 EZGO 295cc Engine Rebuild
Aslong as the journals aren't scored I'd reuse them some people on here say the aftermarket rods aren't nearly as strong as oem.... One word of advice is when you get it back together make sure the oil pump is primed otherwise you will ruien your cam one way I like to do this is put a vacuum on the oil passage where the valve cover meets the head and suck while turning the motor this will help pull oil into the pump to prime it once you have oil shooting out the passage your good to go another way to prime the pump is pack it full of grease on reassembly but I prefer the vacuum method

You can pick plastigage up at local parts stores to measure the rod to crank clearance if you don't have the proper tools also

If you have the extra funds I recommend just doing rods right away also while you have it apart but if you are tight on budget like I was when I did mine I just did pistons, rings, and gaskets.

Re: 2000 EZGO 295cc Engine Rebuild
the old rods are good if not scored mark them and do not mix them up,caps with the rod it was on and facing the right way.i have done over 500 of these and the clutch side almost always goes first.use red locktite on the rod bolts anddo not over tigthen these have a habit of coming loose.but over tite is worse then under.the replacement rods come with star washers to keep them tight.i throw them away and use locktite, after cleaning bolts and threded holes on small drop is all you need. never had one come loose yet. new rings intake vales and 4 valve seals you will be good to go.replace all seals and gaskets, lot easier then redo for a leak
