I just bot one today with those symptoms.
herky jerky low speed with occasional backfire. first day i own cart,,first time searching the ezgo forum and i find something :) |

Possibly. Remove the drive belt. Then I think there are three 10mm headed bolts to remove the black clutch dust cover any then you can clean out any dust etc and make sure the clutch can be pushed back and forth smoothly. This may help but if the sheaves of the clutch are worn and ridged, then it's a new clutch possibly. Also you may find the belt is very worn and not engaging smoothly.
