Crank seals seems to be a problem on 2 cycles.

Could be a plugged exhaust.

Give carb a good cleaning pull the Jets out and clean then use compressed air and blow through all the passages.. if that doesn't fix it as stovebolt mentioned it's most likely crank seals

You can also check your fuel pump to make sure it's working properly. Take of the line from the carb and crank it over and see if it's pumping.

When you hit the gas after you let off and it backfires is probably because the carb is opening before the micro switch is opening. What I mean is when you have the cart off and hit the accelerator pedal you'll hear a click that is coming from the micro switch that's mounted to it. The switch has to open before you see any movement in the carb linkage. If the carb opens first then the switch you'll get a backfire and that will blow out your seals.

Find the switch, take the seat off and it'll be mounted to the front of the engine compartment. Push on the accelerator pedal and you'll hear it click. Now watch the linkage on the carb while pushing on the accelerator and listen for the click. If the carb is moving prior to the click then you need to adjust the switch so it turns on first.

You need the spring from be an ink pen slid over the end of the throttle cable. It will hold the carburetor closed until the microswitch clicks.
Backfiring like that will pop out the seals.
