Hitachi or AMD starter? If Hitachi buy the black pulley and should be good.

If I may, a thought. I have a 2009 RXV that has displayed this behavior since we bought it in 2012. I found engine rebuild manual at Kawasaki. It does have a compression release that is internal. When it won't start keep bumping the pedal until you hear it release compression. Then it will start..... I ended up doing the key bypass so it starts and keeps running as long as key is on. We use it on the street and no start was not acceptable. You will hear the compression wheeze or sneeze as it releases …… there is no cure except to rebuild motor that I found. Some SeaFoam in the fuel will help remove carbon. That helped as well as a little in the crankcase just before oil change. Been there done all that battery, cable, and starter stuff to include brushes etc.....
