Trying to get more speed
This is my first gas cart. I have a 95 txt. I have tightened the govenor screw on the carburator. I've read about putting a shorter belt on and replacing the clutch springs. Does anyone have experience with this or have any other methods?
Thank you |

Re: Trying to get more speed
How fast is it going now, and what kind of speed are you expecting?

Re: Trying to get more speed
On my 1997 TXT the gov. adjustment is on the rear end, not the carb.
If you follow the throttle cable you will see it go's to the rear end. There you will see the spring the cable attaches too. That's the spring you need to tighten. With that said!! If you go to far and turn to many RPM's you can and will blow your engine! When looking at others reported speed you have to factor in there tire size! it makes a big difference. you can download an app on your phone to get your speed. Shorter belt and spring will slow you down some they are make to give you more low end torque. For max speed you want the belt to come all the way to the top of drive clutch. ( front clutch ) and all the way to the bottom of driven clutch. Think of how a 10 speed bicycle works, thats the easiest way to understand this. |

Re: Trying to get more speed
I saw that spring on the rear, it looks a little different. Maybe someone has already messed with it. I'll post a picture of it when I get home.

Re: Trying to get more speed
Some more detail about your cart would be helpful.
What size tires are you running? How is the engine health? Are you running a windshield? I had a 2001 TXT and it would run around 22ish on 23" tires. IF you have stock 18" tires, 20mph is a stretch. You're going to really be taxing that engine and revving to the moon. |

Re: Trying to get more speed
It went roughly 16-17 with 22" tires. I have 23" ordered for it. It was a windshield. I just bought the Cart and haven't done a compression test or anything but it starts right up and runs great.

That's it, looks like the nut is all the way out. You will need to run it in to increase speed. |
