Now that it’s firing up right away. Doesn’t seem to be going at full speed in forward. Reverse was ok. But was leaking a steady steam of oil in my driveway

Does it seem like it is just oil, or oil gas mix?

At first I thought it was just oil..but now I just went out and got a swab from that big streak it left in the driveway and it does smell gassy.

The needle could be sticking open and filling the engine up with oil/gas.
Or could be as simple as the carb leaking gas.

It seems like my carburetor is stuck in a weird position. I’ll wonder if that’s causing it? I have a new carb here maybe I should try to replace it and see what happens.

See how I can push that forward with my thumb? Is that normal?

That carburetor is supposed to be spring loaded wide open. Something is binding, or the spring is weak. Those frayed cables could be causing it to bind.

You are also going to have a backfiring problem because the spring that slides over the throttle cable is missing. It goes between the lever, and the ferrule.

I suspect that right now, you have a very erratic throttle response instead of a smooth cruise.

If it was me, I would get rid of all that crap, and have nothing on there but a throttle cable, and a choke.

Yeah it definitely seems like something is binding with the open/close valve on the carb. I have a new carb so I’ll just replace the whole thing rather than cleaning it.

I did not know I could just remove those other cables? Anything special I need to do?

Thanks for letting me know about the spring, didn’t notice that I’ll get that replaced right away. Honestly haven’t been able to drive it since I bought it so don’t know how smooth it’s operating, the pedal did seem kind of touchy.

I know but It’s just a stupid tube color that was used for some reason. Not sure why. I filled the oil myself after completely draining the tanks, definitely red oil.
