HEI conversion 1991 schematic differences
Hi,
Looking into the conversion posted by Ronman. His wiring diagram showed the details for a slightly different wiring. I saw another user had solved it but I'm still confused by the routing of some wires. In the screen shot attached, the bottom is Ron's wiring redo, above is my current wiring. On mine, D+ on the VR goes to D on SOL. On Ron's D+ goes to A on the SOL. While writing and reviewing I may have come to an understanding but external confirmation would be good. If replacing the ignitor on these schematics. I'm ok with the blue and red from pulsar (may have to switch) and the black comes from D- to ground. Orange to C to the coil. In my schematic, what would attach to B on the new HEI?? Thanks in advance. Sorry if this had been covered before.. |

Re: HEI conversion 1991 schematic differences
It doesn't matter. They are both positive, and they both get power when you step on the pedal. That's the D+ question.
Now the other one. B from the HEI also connects to the positive side of the solenoid. D, or A. Your choice. Many people get confused on the HEI wiring. They think that black dot is C while it is really the mounting hole going to ground. Glad to see that you didn't fall for that trap. |

I did fall for that trap till I saw a pic.
Since D on mine is routed to D+ and the VR is right above the current ignitor. Can I jump a wore from D+ to B? Thanks. |

Yes. You are looking for any positive power source.

Re: HEI conversion 1991 schematic differences
The reason for the conversion is due to a low spark situation.. using an inline spark plug tester it barely lights up but does glow a faint red when the pedal is pressed. If the ignitor is blown and that's all, should this resolve that? I had no way to test the ignitor and no other ignition coil to test with.. hoping this will fix the issue.
