Default carb help before I get out the c-4

I have an 88 marathon with the two stroke. I tried two carbs, the first one worked good for a couple weeks then started shooting gas out the vent. second carb (used, came with cart) worked for about 15 minutes, then started to do the same thing.
I bought a new carb, put it on and it will run if I keep it about half choke.
(no choke, no vroom vroom)
I checked the adjustment, tried it at 1 1/2 turns,, 2 turns,, and 2 1/2 turns still no put put without choke.

Now I know I need exhaust gaskets, but before I toss money away I want to make sure this thing is gonna run.

Any suggestions or ideas ????

I don't think you ever got a copy of the manual. it's down below.

Read page J-6. There is no adjustment on that carburetor. You can set the float level. That's it.

I'd suspect either a Reed problem or crank seals judging by your description.

Have you guys ever heard of or seen where gas would shoot out of the vent on the carb before. I just think it's odd that it worked fine for awhile then started doing it. I"ve never had a carb do that unless the inlet needle and seat in the bowl was bad. But even them it only trickled out and this would actually shoot out.

If you hold your hand over the carb when you crank it, does it suck your hand onto it?

Spray some carb cleaner around where the crankshaft seals are and see if it runs better. If so, definitely needs crank seals.

Alao I'd pull the carb off and pull the reeds out and inspect them. If the reeds arent seating or chipped or anything it's not going to be a happy engine
