ezgo gas with robin 295 engine wont run smooth

Hi all. Hope everyone ok in these crap times.
I could do with some advice. I have a friends buggy . Its an EZGO 2005 txt with the 295cc robin engine. The problem is that he can not get it to run smooth at walking pace. It jumps and stops and starts, seems like driving on the micro switch all the time. apart from this it runs fine.
I have checked the plugs,and did a compression test (150 ) both equal,cleaned the carb all to no avail just can not get it to run smooth on tick over.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Does the motor surge at low speeds?

Thanks for the reply. No it dosnt surge just stops and starts. Will run fine with a bit more gas. but he wants it to run at walking pace so he can talk with his playing partner. I just can not get it to run smooth at low speed.

Sounds like it could be a linkage adjustment problem, hope someone here can help.

Thanks for the reply StoveBolt. seems as if as soon as the micro switch kicks in the engine starts up but will not run smooth at tick over. I have checked that the throttle plate is not moving before the micro switch clicks. Has me baffled.

Adjust the cable from the throttle to the governor and add a little slack to it. Sounds like someone tried to speed it up and probably adjuated the wrong stufd

Listen for the micro switch to click, then adjust the throttle/cable, so that the butterfly starts to open after about an inch of pedal travel after the switch clicks. No need to remove air filter, just watch the linkage, that should sort it. As CP said, someones been trying to make it go faster!

Also check the redundant idle screw on the side of the carb, (do this first) If this has been screwed in, you will get the same symptoms. You can remove it and file it under garbage, its not required.
