Those carts weren't really meant to sit and idle so the carb can get a little funny. I'd suspect carb or fuel quality issues first. If it's a stock Mikuni carb, keep it and clean it in a sonic cleaner. Get new gaskets and a new float and needle. If the carb has play in the throttle shaft it needs to be reworked or replaced. I do not recommend the cheap china carbs. Try to find a good used or new Mikuni. You can convert the carb to a motorcycle style with some effort.

Might be time for a new pump. I've never seen those come apart.

On my G1 I just replaced the very old and nasty metal mikuni stock unit with a plastic Briggs and Stratton pump, worked great. Very inexpensive, under $25. It won't bolt in place of the old one exactly the same. If I remember correctly I just used one mounting ear of the new pump and used one stock bolt. The rubber lines mated up fine.

I'm not real familiar with that pump, never rebuilt one. As I said, I swapped over to a Briggs unit. Here's a pic of the Briggs pump.

I don't know if that fitting is pressed on or what. It's not supposed to come apart I can tell you that for sure. Does it have threads or anything?

Does your pump look like this?
