Default lights

I just changed the body on my 36v 1984 clubcar my new body has the lights built in I have it all wired to 2 of the batteries but they go off after a few mins until i plug the charger back in. my batteries are only a year old. Any ideas? Also is there a better way to hook the lights up without causing uneven wear to the batteries?
